Letters to the Editor

Letter: Thanks, Anchorage Folk Fest!

If you turned on the radio this past week, you probably heard about the impeachment proceedings. However, if you turned toward the Wendy Williamson auditorium at the University of Alaska Anchorage in late January, you enjoyed in the great pleasure and privilege of listening to the unifying sounds of the 31st Annual Anchorage Folk Festival.

I wear many hats in my life, from husband to dad to teacher to writer. One of my favorite hats, I at least try to wear, is one of singer/songwriter. For the second year in a row, I had the great honor and privilege to share the stage with a band of friends and fellow dads called Folk Medicine. One song we sang was an original titled “Old as Trees” that we spent the fall writing together.

As I reflect, I realize the Anchorage Folk Festival deserves a tremendous thank-you for fusing the city of Anchorage together through folk music and positivity all these years. It’s my sincere hope that the Anchorage Folk Festival continues to grow as old as a birch tree. In the midst of headlines and soundbites topsy-turvy, we folk of Anchorage sure have one thing to help us through the dark winter months. Thank you again, Anchorage Folk Festival!
