Letter: Leave the Catholic Church

If you are Catholic, do you agree with your church on matters of reproductive freedom? If not, maybe you worry about these differences of opinion. Maybe you have had a crisis of faith. But if you still consider yourself a Catholic, you must have decided that these issues were not important enough to disrupt your belief system. Well, they should be important enough. The pope has told Africans at high risk of HIV infection not to use condoms. The church tells its members not to use birth control, while the availability of birth control is of vital importance to women’s welfare and fight for equality.

If you care about these issues but continue to support the Catholic Church, you are part of the problem. You are preventing progress. You are a hypocrite. The Catholic Church holds up its membership numbers and says “See all these people who agree with our doctrines!” You are one of them and you give the church power to push its harmful doctrines on the world.

Please revoke your membership in the Catholic Church. Write to them or tell your priest, “no more.” It is the only way to diminish the church’s power over millions of people, even non-Catholics. Please, I beg you, leave the Catholic Church .
