Letter: The balance of power

The real significance of President Donald Trump’s acquittal is that he has successfully destroyed the U.S. Constitution’s balance of power by refusing to allow any witnesses and documents to be sent to the co-equal branch of government, Congress. Thereby, with this precedent, Congress no longer has the ability to review presidential actions through subpoenas of witnesses and documents. When Trump publicly stated on video that, under Article II of the Constitution, as president, he can do anything he wants, we no longer have a democracy. Now, we have a dictatorship. Now, only the president can decide what can be investigated by Congress.

Only the defeat of Trump in November by the American voters will nullify his interpretation of the Constitution. Will the American voters realize the gravity of this election in November? Will the managers of the mass media allow information on this quiet and bloodless seizure of power to be adequately presented to the American people? So far, the managers seem to have decided to concentrate on which Democrat is leading in the primaries and polls.
