Letter: We can’t tolerate retaliation

I am deeply troubled that the White House is retaliating against impeachment witnesses — in particular, Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman.

Our country relies on the personal integrity of its public servants, such as Lt. Col. Vindman, as a last check against abuse of power and as a last means to ensure our national security. Punishing a public servant like Lt. Col. Vindman (who has an excellent military and service record) for following the dictates of his conscience is despicable.

I am the mother of a former Marine. I love this country for the ideals for which it has historically been known. For these reasons, I find the retaliation against Lt. Col. Vindman particularly egregious. I hope that our representatives in Congress and their colleagues will make it clear to the president that such retaliation will not be tolerated.
