Letter: A time for gratitude

As we are in unprecedented and challenging times, I suspect many in our world are understandably anxious, uncertain, frustrated and more. What a wonderful opportunity to recall how important the virtue of gratitude is for each of us to tap into!

Having a constant attitude to thankfulness and appreciation for life as it unfolds. Living in the moment and being open to abundance around us and within us. Noticing small graces and being thankful for small, and not so small, gifts. My reflections today include a few things for which I am thankful: beautiful groomed trails where we can practice social distancing; recorded music that uplifts us; podcasts that inform and entertain; journalists who work tirelessly to seek and report the truth; grocers and supply-line workers who keep our store shelves stocked; the internet that keeps us connected and informed; medical workers on the front line, risking their own well-being for the sake of the rest of us; educators working hard to figure out how to best serve our children and families; government — yes, government! — that is working to serve us all, protecting us and keeping us safe; quiet time to draw closer to God; and time to spend with our loved ones.

These are just a few things that come to mind. If we really think about it, there are so many more things we can be grateful for in spite of our need to stay put or as we watch our retirement savings shrink. Be thankful for the gift of gratitude. It is the magnet of joy!
