Thanks to the Alaska Legislature, which worked through a difficult session to create and pass the 2020 operating budget. Through negotiation and compromise, they found a way to fund our critical needs of our state departments, public education and public broadcasting. They pulled together for the good of all Alaskans.
The work is not finished; we still need to create more revenue sources like a fair income tax, since the oil money is dwindling down to a small fraction of past years’. But at least we have some breathing time while we battle COVID-19. We will have a better future because of this Legislature’s foresight.
We might question why the following chose to vote no: Sen. Shower, and Reps. Carpenter, Eastman, Jackson, LeDoux, Shaw, and Vance. They’ll need to explain themselves, especially when they run for office in the future.
