Letter: Overreaction

Compared to the many diseases that have plagued mankind since civialization began, COVID-19 is relatively benign. It isn’t smallpox or cholera or polio or even the measles. The vast majority of those infected will recover with few ill effects. Why are we (over)reacting to this with such fear? Why is the government shutting down lives?

I think those who are using this crisis for political goals are much more than irresponsible — they are criminal. Obviously, we need discipline, restraint and perseverance right now, but this must end soon.
