Letter: Recall and revenue

Debate over what government should fund and how much it should cost is normal and essential. Do people really think that debate should take place without regard to where the money is coming from and how much we have?

Many folks are clamoring for the governor’s removal simply because he believes spending our children’s future savings is the worst way to fund government.

I don’t know if I like or dislike Gov. Mike Dunleavy, but so far all he has done is veto some spending because the Legislature has refused to do its part to raise revenue for the state. How many committee hearings did an income tax bill get last session? They’ve kicked the can down the road for so many years, they seem to have forgotten almost every responsibility except returning donor and lobbyist phone calls.

Debate is great — and certainly many people are going through significant upheaval because of the governor’s budget cuts. But this recall effort partly resembles the behavior of a drunk borrowing money from his children so he can buy another bottle. Call your legislator and tell them to grow a set.
