Letter: Inept response

I pay close attention when medical professionals weigh in on matters pertaining to Covid-19, so I was eager to read what Dr. Ron Bowerman had to say. But I was mystified when he praised the U.S. administration’s demonstrably chaotic and ineffective response.

In particular, he lauded the current president's so-called "travel ban" on China. Surely he knows that since the "ban" was imposed, some 40,000 people have entered the U.S. from China, and for the most part without undergoing any kind of systematic health screening. What was Trump thinking? If the Administration's response has been so great, how does he account for the fact that while the U.S. has 4% of the world's population, it has 28% of the world's COVID-19 deaths?
