Letter: Save the SeaLife Center

The Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward is an Alaska treasure. Its existence stems from funds allocated after the Exxon Valdez oil spill and is an example of how good can come from the most terrible of circumstances.

I hope Alaskans can rise to the occasion and extend their support to save the SeaLife Center. It’s existence is too important to this area for sea mammal rescue, sea life study, and delighting and educating families about caring for ocean creatures. Their cause is too important to fail in any circumstance. I would have liked to see the ADN write specifically on how individuals can help save the SeaLife Center. But since the ADN didn’t, please see alaskasealife.org/savethecenter for how you can help.

My children watch “Alaska Animal Rescue” on NatGeo, which inspired them to adopt an octopus and harbor seal from the Alaska SeaLife Center. The ASLC is a special place here in Alaska — we can’t let it close.
