Letter: Dump Don Young

Rep. Don Young wrote an op-ed piece in the The Hill on Aug. 4, lambasting several large corporate bankers. He makes his case about their hypocrisy and not listening to all Alaskans. I see the pot calling the kettle black.

Don Young likes to point out he is Representative for all Alaskans. That describes him only because due to our relatively small population the entire state of Alaska has only one representative in Washington, D.C. Does he actually represent all Alaskans or even make an effort to listen to or to speak with those who may not always agree with him? I think not.

Who does he listen to? Who does he represent? No surprise to anyone that money in politics buys at least the ear of Congress. Where does Don get his campaign money?

The majority of Don Young’s campaign money comes from corporate political action committees (PACs). Compare this to Alyse Galvin, his challenger in the current election; she accepts no corporate PAC monies. Though the dollars raised and available to each campaign is comparable, a recent public report indicates Alyse Galvin received 91% of her contributions from individual donors, to Mr. Young’s 41%.

It is time for Alaska to have a representative who is in touch with all Alaskans and has the passion, knowledge and demeanor to be our voice in Washington, D.C. Fellow Alaskans, please use your power and vote in the Alaska primary, Aug. 18 and the general election, Nov. 3! Let’s get an Alaskan voice in Congress. Vote for Alyse Galvin!
