Letters to the Editor

Letter: Fully fund USPS

I am increasingly concerned about the anti-democratic activities of the Trump administration. Lying, name-calling, and incoherent rambling aside, actions such as overturning the conviction of political crony Roger Stone, dispersing peaceful protests with violence to create political theater, and dismissing scientific evidence that conflicts with a political agenda are contrary to our nation's core values and traditions.

Critical to our nation’s standing as the light of democracy in the world is the right for all citizens to vote. We need to facilitate voting, not impede it. Instead, Trump is working to increasingly limit voting access to a privileged minority of the citizenry. Trump has stated that widespread voting by mail would be “bad for Republicans.” He has therefore started an attack on the U.S. Postal Service to disrupt its 200-year legacy of efficiency and accountability. It is apparent that by disabling the Postal Service, Trump thinks he can repress votes to turn the election, or at least throw uncertainty into the vote counting on Nov. 3.

Don’t let this administration upset the election process. Insist on full funding of the Postal Service so that the delivery of mail – and ballots – goes on unimpeded for all Alaskans and our nation as a whole.
