Letter: A crucial election

Is this really the most important election in modern history?

It seems every election year we hear the cry, “This election is the most important ever. If you don’t vote now, all will be lost.”

Well, after voting in Alaska for more than 40 years, I can tell you one thing for sure. This is the most important election of my life. After the 2016 awful surprise of electing someone who clearly didn’t want to be President, we must right that wrong.

For those who claim to be happy with our current president I ask you these questions, are you better off than you were in 2016? Is our economy strong? Does our health care work for those who truly need healthcare? And what about the state of the nation? Have race relations improved? Has our air become cleaner? Our water free of pollution? What about truth — are we getting the truth from our President? Does he understand his role as leader of this great nation?

I have witnessed politics up close and personal my whole adult life. But I have never ever witnessed the sheer disregard for this nation’s welfare coming from a seated President. This is an election we need to express our courage, respect and love for this country. Remember, the majority of Americans in 2016 did not vote for Donald Trump.
