Letters to the Editor

Letter: It’s always someone’s backyard

It’s funny how Midtown is so adamant that housing and resources not be available for people with drug and alcohol problems, able to address homelessness. “Not in my backyard.”

I believe the Spenard City Council was happy about having a building in their neighborhood that could help consolidate the people with issues into one location.

I live on Skid Row, halfway down 3rd Ave. It starts at the Cordova House and then continues east with another halfway house, the Soup Kitchen, alcohol housing, illegal camping, four bars, the Henry House, more alcohol housing, Bean’s Cafe, Brother Francis Shelter, and ends at the jail (ironically.)

Cry me a river, Midtown; it is already in your neighborhood, north of 15th Ave. There is a block party in the woods on the west end of Rogers Park on most days. There have been out-of-control fires in the camps along the Chester Creek greenbelt. Midtown Fred Meyer sealed its second entrance permanently.

It is already in your neighborhood. The mayor is just trying to consolidate the problem to make it easier for police to protect your neighborhood.
