Letter: End the circus

Now that the illegal circus display at the White House is over, it appears we have an emperor. The only problem is the emperor has no clothes.

Does President Donald Trump really think people believe him when he says COVID-19 is behind us? All we have to do is look around. Businesses are shuttered, schools can’t open and we now have 180,000 deaths. He’s says we’re doing the best in the world. The best at what, number of deaths?

Does he really think people believe him when he says the economy is on its way back? All we have to do is look at our own community. Ask Alaska Airlines how it’s doing. Ask the oil industry how it’s doing. Ask small businesses if they’re coming back. It’s eerie to drive around and see all the shuttered businesses.

Ask Alaska families how they’re doing. I heard a report by a city housing administrator two weeks ago. She said many people are on the verge of losing their housing and that Anchorage could see as many as 11,000 more homeless people in the near future. According to the recent newsletter I received from the Food Bank, there was a 75% increase in food needs from March through June. I think it’s a crime that 52,000 Alaskan children don’t have enough to eat.

Where is the outrage by Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan? Instead of passing another relief bill, the Senate decided to take a vacation. Oh, yes Murkowski did say that dismantling the Postal Service during a pandemic when mail-in voting is recommended “is not appropriate.”

We’re seeing people in the streets shooting each other. This is Trump’s America. He can’t blame it on anyone else. Trump is not the Republican party. He is his own party. That’s why there is the Republicans Against Trump and The Lincoln Project. They’re made up of the real Republicans. They’re making it OK to vote for Biden this election.

I’m weary of the lies and propaganda. I’m sad to see so many people hurting. Please, let’s take our country back.
