Letter: Think outside the box

Now that the Northway Mall is closing and the BP building will be vacant, why can we not turn our attention to creating something good?

Senior citizenry is growing more everyday. Not all senior citizens are ready for the old folks’ home or assisted living. Some older individuals are now banding together to take care of each other so they don’t have to go to those places. Perhaps it is time to turn our attention to the Northway Mall for just such a purpose. It would be ideal as a senior village with units inside, out of the elements, for those individuals who still want to live independently and who are still viable in their everyday lives.

Micro-apartments are being created in Lower 48 cities. Isn’t it time we started thinking outside the box and being creative with not only our senior citizens, but with our homeless as well? Rather than purchasing buildings to house the homeless, why not utilize some of the already vacant building space for that purpose.
