Letter: Vote for Gross

Are you in financially better shape today than you were in 2014? Six years ago, Alaska voted in Dan Sullivan as Alaska’s junior U.S. senator. Since then, his voting record includes opposing taxing the wealthy, poverty amelioration, consumer protection, Black Lives Matter, women’s rights, LGBT rights, labor rights and wages, funding education, funding environmental protection, financial sector regulation, public health during a time of a worldwide pandemic, foreign and humanitarian aid, humane immigration policy, internet freedom, avoiding default, increasing revenues, a robust safety net, domestic surveillance and supports taxing the middle class and big business at the expense of all the above.

Ninety-seven percent of the time over the past six years, he simply voted the way his Washington, D.C., Republican bosses told him to — not in the best interests of the people of Alaska, but for the Republican Party. I am a veteran of the U.S. military, as are my U.S. Air Force Special Forces husband, my Alaska Army National Guard daughter, my U.S. Army father and my three uncles, one of whom died in Italy during World War II. We put our lives on the line for our country out of patriotism. To hear that the head of his party considers veterans “losers” is extremely insulting, and the reason I am writing today.

Half of all registered Alaskan are “undeclared” or “nonpartisan.” I am one of these. This year, vote for someone who is not a toady to this political party. Vote for Dr. Al Gross for U.S. Senate.
