Letter: Continue mayor’s good work

The mayor’s resignation sparked deep concern and serious questions for me as a voter and resident of Anchorage. Who will continue his challenging work to fund and repair the port? Not the state, although I always hope for an about-face on that. Who will address the very human problem of homelessness? The number of homeless on C Street and various intersections is noticeably reduced. That means vulnerable individuals are being moved to safe quarters. Credit him, too, with working with the governor on COVID-19, despite their different views on this. The woman accusing the mayor sounded unbalanced. For her, we are losing a dedicated and able public servant?

Whatever moments of humility and introspection the mayor has had in a very public arena, I hope he will also recognize that his talents addressed pressing problems and moved us along to a better city.

As a resident and a voter, I regret we are now without his leadership and considerable ability. Perhaps the Assembly chair will continue her own work on the Assembly, and appoint Mayor Ethan Berkowitz to continue working as mayor.
