Letter: Supreme Court confirmation

It is pretty simple, really: Sen. Dan Sullivan was elected by a majority of Alaska voters to make choices in the best interest of the people of Alaska. In 2016, when President Barack Obama nominated Judge Merrick Garland, that nominated choice was not in the best interests of Alaska. Hence, Sen. Sullivan did what he got elected to do: represent Alaska and not try to help to confirm this judge.

Skip forward to today. Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination is in the best interest of the people of Alaska, so Sen. Sullivan is supporting this effort. There is no hypocrisy, Sen. Sullivan is doing exactly what he was elected to do, by and for Alaskans. This is not a red or blue issue, this is just how elected representatives are supposed to do their job. Pretty simple.
