Letter: A plan to defeat COVID-19

The goal: minimize the number of infected people, reducing the impact.

Our country has no comprehensive plan to defeat COVID-19. A plan would strongly urge or mandate fundamentals to stop infection: Wear masks, unless medically detrimental, socially distance, sanitize surfaces, hands and air wherever practical.

Childish complaints that these fundamentals are inconvenient, tough or violate constitutional rights are ridiculous if we want to defeat the virus and keep people and businesses alive. Front-line patriots, most businesses and multitudes of individuals must wear masks, distance, wash and disinfect constantly. These are our basic weapons to defeat COVID-19.

Republican “leaders” are responsible for prolonging this situation by acquiescence to incompetent leadership, politicization of masking, distancing, sanitizing, misinformation and foolish disrespect for science, resulting in needless infections, fatalities and negative economic fallout.

If we all rise in the morning, pull up our pants, don our masks, practice these basics and cooperate in tracking as requested by trustworthy doctors, scientists and our own common sense, we can minimize COVID-19 infections, deaths and business restrictions.

Let’s act intelligently together and take fundamental actions to defeat this enemy for the common good.
