Letters to the Editor

Letter: Intellectual dishonesty comes at a price

I have thought about this long and hard. I absolutely believe that it is a civic responsibility to subscribe to quality news outlets to support investigative journalism. My family subscribes to many legitimate, well-researched, well-analyzed publications, including the ADN. We are interested in the thoughtful and well-studied opinions of others. We appreciate differing points of view that are well-researched and written.

I personally have appreciated the ADN editorial board’s commentaries on local issues. Typically they are made after an honest appraisal of the facts and circumstances and with the interests of Alaskans at heart. Not so with the recent endorsements of Sen. Dan Sullivan and Rep. Don Young. They were intellectually dishonest. An evenhanded review of their job performance to date, especially Rep. Young’s, demonstrates they are not the best choice to perform those jobs for the state of Alaska. The endorsements were poorly reasoned and partisan. As a result, ADN has lost some support.

I will maintain an electronic subscription to support the real journalism that the ADN often provides. The editorial board of the sole mainstream newspaper in Anchorage should endorse no candidates rather than give endorsements unsupported by the evidence. In protest, I will defund my support of the print edition.
