Letters to the Editor

Letter: National security

It’s time for Sen. Dan Sullivan to step up and show us that he is serious about national security. I have appreciated his work on the Save Our Seas Act and I am supportive of his efforts to ensure that there are sufficient resources in Alaska to guard against the intrusion of Russia and other countries into our Arctic seas and skies.

But his silence to date on the outcome of the presidential election is deeply disturbing. Unlike his senior colleague in the Senate, Sen. Sullivan has not reached out to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden. Further, by his silence, he is essentially colluding to delay cooperation with required-by-law transition activities that will ensure a smooth transition to a new administration.

A smooth transition is vital to a strong national security; if Sullivan doesn’t recognize that reality, he loses all credibility in claiming a commitment to protect the national security of the United States.
