Letter: Enforce the mask mandate

The city seems unwilling or unable to enforce mask wearing.

A local store I frequent has shown flagrant disregard for public health by not enforcing the mandate that all employees and customers must wear a mask inside the store. In the past week, I have twice seen an employee there with no face covering whatsoever. Some others wear their mask below their nose.

Further, this very high-traffic convenience store allows customers without face covering, despite their new signage that states that customers must wear a mask. Speaking with some workers there, I’m told they were directed to let any customers in. Would they still serve a customer breaking the “no shirt, no shoes, no service” mantra?

This, and likely other, stores that pull these shenanigans are threatening public health at a time when our state is losing health care workers to COVID-19 quarantine and quitting on a large scale due to stress.

This flagrant disregard for public health, and the lack of municipal enforcement, is obscene.
