Letter: Stand up, Sen. Murkowski

The Supreme Court has spoken. Unfortunately, President Donald Trump continues his — what adjective to use? — “divisive” stance. Although “destructive” is a close second. And that is what I am writing to you about today. The continued silence of moderate and rational Republicans is critical at this time. Not only for the Republican Party, but for the entire country.

Abraham Lincoln was right: “A country divided cannot long endure.” America is no exception to this prophetic rule. Without a strong, rational, even compassionate political voice from established Republican leaders in the Congress, and within each state, the far right unbending and, yes, violent voices (look carefully at the state of Georgia) — from the president to people in the streets — will continue to disrupt everything from congressional procedure to police enforcement to — you name it.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s continued silence makes her duplicitous to this disruption and violence of the far right wing. I cannot see it any other way. How does she see it?

I have this to say to her: Speak now, and speak strongly. I beg of you.
