That Republicans in Congress are blocking a $2,000 pandemic payment (instead of $600) is good politics for Democrats. But Donald Trump is pushing the higher amount is his attempt to buy popularity.
The money should go into higher unemployment benefits, extended longer. For the most part, those of us who haven’t lost a job don’t even need the $600 payment.
