Letter: Stop the lies

Each day, the Republican Party relies on the support of a seriously misinformed base captive to conspiracy theorists, the party undermines democracy. Violent events of recent days clearly show that democracy cannot thrive on a diet of lies and misconceptions. These lies and misconceptions have been fed by the president, members of the Republican National Committee and many Republican members of Congress.

That Republican members of Congress would vote to override the results of the Electoral College vote after the Capitol building had been under siege by an insurrectionist mob, is unconscionable and clearly an act of sedition.

Unless the Republican Party fully and very publicly repudiates the votes of these members of Congress and any claims that the presidential election was stolen from Trump, the party will continue to damage the nation.

We cannot heal our democracy while validating lies.
