Letter: PFD payout

Alaska should stop paying out the Permanent Fund dividend all at the same time and start a monthly or quarterly payout. When the dividend is issued to Alaskans, it leaves the state faster than a North Slope blizzard, for high-ticket items such as vehicles, snowmachines, jet skis, big-screen TVs and vacation destinations.

A monthly or quarterly payout would benefit both Alaskans and Alaska, as the dividend would go mostly for day-to-day living; which I believe was the intent of the PFD: to provide Alaskans with help with living here, not for holidays and big-screen TVs.

This would be especially beneficial and responsible for dealing with our homeless problem and those living in poverty. It would also mean more PFD dollars going into Alaskan businesses year-round.
