Letter: Proposed DMV closures

The recent op-ed regarding Department of Administration Commissioner Kelly Tshibaka’s “creative” plan to close Division of Motor Vehicles offices in six communities and give the business to private enterprise at as much as twice the cost is very interesting. Apparently, she admitted to a legislative committee that she couldn’t do that in the larger population centers because too many people would be affected and would complain.

Well, here’s a person from Anchorage who thinks it is totally wrong and happy to say so. These offices take in twice the funds that it costs to run them. How is this “creative?”

All it is is another attempt by the Dunleavy administration to further erode the state of Alaska and turn its legitimate functions over to private enterprise. I am against that.

Perhaps they should concentrate more on realistic, actual budget issues. Yes, I know, I’m dreaming here, but a girl has to be able to dream.
