Letter: Corporate profiteering

GCI has announced the elimination of 142 Alaska jobs by outsourcing them to the Philippines. Gov. Mike Dunleavy, Rep. Don Young, and Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan must be proud that the weakened labor laws and corporate regulations are such that a company can move jobs offshore simply because they are unwilling to offer competitive pay and benefits to recruit employees.

As oil, ironically, goes the way of the dinosaur, our state and federal leaders are left to figure out how to create, attract and maintain jobs that allow Alaskans to prosper. So far, their strategy of weakened government and ineffectual action is working great, at least for GCI.
