Letter: Recall motives

Ballot packages were mailed recently, and for voters in Assembly District 4 (Midtown), there is a vote regarding the recall of Assemblyman Felix Rivera. Assembly District 4 includes the Rogers Park Community Council, where I reside. As a past president and regular attendee of this council, I have observed Assemblyman Rivera for the past four years. He showed up at our meetings, listened to our concerns, answered our questions, admitted when he did not know an answer and worked to find those answers. In short, he did his job.

The recall sponsor statement accuses him of knowingly participating in an indoor gathering of more than 15 people. The accusation has not been proven and is so frivolous that it would be laughable if it were not such a serious thing that this recall attempts to accomplish. An attempt to undo an election without just cause sets an unnerving precedent.

I suggest that those who may be considering voting to recall, look deep into themselves to decide whether the accusation merits his recall from elected office and their motives before they vote.
