Letter: Bravo for GOP’s Murkowski censure

As someone who was born — in 1947 — and raised in Alaska, now living in Soldotna, I wish to write something in response to a piece your paper published March 16. Sadly, I have watched the representation of Alaskans deteriorate over the past couple of decades.I am more particularly referencing Lisa Murkowski’s censuring by the Alaska Republican Party. Hooray for them.

It’s about time they stood up to her. She calls herself a Republican but consistently votes with the Democrats. Her voting record in the U.S. Senate consistently goes against the Constitution which she claims to uphold.  Quoting her, “I stand my ground. If I had to take that vote again, I would vote to uphold my oath of office.” “… but I will make the statement again that my obligations is to support the Constitution, that I have pledged to uphold …”

What part of the Constitution did she uphold while voting to impeach a man who is no longer the president?

I could name many other pieces of unconstitutional legislation she has voted in favor of that violates the Constitutional restraints placed on our representatives, but I have to keep my comments limited to 200 words.
