Letter: Grocery bags and boxes

As I was doing my groceries shopping, I was in the meat department, and one of the workers there was emptying boxes of meat products and setting the boxes aside. I asked if I could use a couple, and he gave them to me.

This remined me of the time, some 70 years ago, when my mother would bring the groceries home in both “strong” paper bags and boxes. This set me to thinking why the stores are throwing these boxes away when they could be using them to box groceries at the check out stand. This would eliminate the use of plastic bags, and the boxes can be reused or destroyed without the environmentalists going nuts. Just a thought from an old man.
