Letter: Against persecution

The surge of anti-LGBTQ legislation across the country is outright persecution of the innocent. It is my opinion that people choose to be born gay or transgender for the purpose of spiritual advancement. They have chosen to endure the loneliness, ridicule and abuse that comes with being different in order to evolve spiritually, and to help this world become a better place. From Leo Tolstoy: “There are as many kinds of love as there are hearts.”

We tell children they will get into trouble if they don’t tell the truth, then we tell adults they will get into trouble if they do tell the truth. Liz Cheney, who was gutted by milksop Republicans for standing up and telling the truth, is an example. From Joe McCarthy to Kevin McCarthy the Republican Party is the party of cowards, bullies and fruitcakes. Its motto is “Anything but the truth.”

It is the inviolate duty of Americans to defend the persecuted, because it is truth alone that is persecuted. E Pluribus Unum — Out of Many, One. We are meant to be a nation of individuals united by our belief in the sanctity of the individual.
