To the utter surprise of no one, the US-backed government of Afghanistan fell to the Taliban. We have a track record of invading countries and then watching as our puppet states crumble when we leave. We do, however, have a duty to those we left behind; we are honor-bound to help and provide for our allies, even in defeat.
