Letter: Glenn Highway fiasco

On Saturday, I was one of the thousands who spent almost three hours on the Glenn Highway driving from Wasilla to Anchorage. The reason for the long delay, or so we were led to believe, was road construction at the Mirror Lake exit, with the promise it would soon be done.

I left Wasilla at 6 p.m., and at 8:45 p.m. I got to Eklutna. The delay was caused by funneling the normal two lanes of traffic into one lane. There was a sign just past the Eklutna overpass that indicated “Right lane closed ahead,” which was forcing all traffic to merge into the left lane. What I expected to see once I got to the Mirror Lake exit, where the construction was taking place, was equipment and a construction crew working.

Boy, was I surprised. No equipment was on the road and no construction crew was in sight. It appears they had completed their job and gone home. The only problem was that someone had forgotten to take down the “Right lane closed” sign. Unbelievable.
