Letter: Questions on homeless services

Why in the world are we kicking Bean’s Café out of Sullivan Arena and bringing in a new operator that doesn’t even appear to have a website, when we haven’t even been able to figure out where to shelter and feed the homeless this winter?

Bean’s Café has been a long-time valuable resource to our community, providing caring and competent support to those who need it most. They capably provided this service at the Sullivan Arena and it makes no sense to replace them at this time.

Of even more concern, it’s hard to believe that 99 Plus 1, a company that has only been registered as an Alaska business for less than a year, is taking over the whole operation. The RFP for a new contract seems to require three years of experience delivering similar services. It’s difficult to find much information about this firm, but it appears to be owned and operated by a single individual with a background in real estate who just happens to be a Bronson campaign donor.

Once again, something just doesn’t sound right here. I just hope the Anchorage Assembly continues to do its job of trying to keep our new mayor from doing any further damage.
