I was surprised to see a letter in the Sept. 23 ADN supporting Matthew Beck’s candidacy for Mat-Su Borough mayor. As background, the borough operates its Central Landfill in a manner that pollutes the neighborhood I live in. Shortly after he was elected to the Borough Assembly, Beck agreed to do a walking tour of the landfill with me to look at those problems.
After that tour, he agreed that the Borough’s landfill operations were unacceptable. Yet, during his time on the Assembly, Beck accomplished nothing to correct this situation. If you want an ineffective Borough mayor, Beck may well be your candidate. However, I will look elsewhere for someone who can accomplish the tasks required of borough government.
