Letter: National debt debacle

In October, there was a sort of stalemate in Congress over the debt ceiling and some other budget issues. I am concerned that if we keep having struggles like this, our country as a whole will never get a chance to get out of the extraordinary debt that we owe.

As a nation, we spend almost $1 trillion per year that we don’t have. There has to be a way for the nation as a whole to slow down spending and deal with the issues of the national debt. This is more than just decreasing spending every year, we have to make some sort of active commitment to attack the national debt and deal with it before too long. Not only are we spending the money of the future, but we are also risking the freedom and values of the future of our country by not making a move against the national debt.
