Letter: Gun-handling safety

U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie just published a family photo of all his immediate family members holding guns together in what appeared to be their living room, made shortly after the Oxford school shooting. This was not only insensitive but displayed gross gun-handling ignorance. Rep. Massie was seated pointing his semi-automatic, bazooka-sized firearm at his daughter’s and wife’s knees. His wife was pointing her rifle directly at the chest of one of her sons.

Apart from the gross disrespect to the families who had just lost children at the Oxford school shooting massacre, Rep. Massie and his family clearly do not understand the first rule of safely handling firearms as taught by the National Rifle Association, hunter training programs and other gun safety schools: never point a gun, loaded or unloaded, at another person or in any unsafe direction.
