Letters to the Editor

Letter: A better streaming option

I write not so much to defend Yukon TV as to report a user experience less dismal than most described in your pages.

Ours went as follows:

1. Purchased Amazon Fire streaming device.

2. Went to the Yukon website and signed up.

3. Was told GCI would call us to complete the process.

4. GCI did and, in about 15 minutes, answered all our questions and got our Yukon account activated.

And the user experience? Not so bad. Amazon Fire works well with Yukon and the picture is better than we had on cable.

One thing that strikes me about the Yukon complaints is how often they center on the user’s streaming device. None of these complaints, to my recollection, involved the Amazon Fire. So if you’re having device-related problems, perhaps give the Amazon Fire a try. You could have a happier viewing experience while enjoying the warm glow that comes from helping Jeff Bezos finance his astronaut fantasies.

Based on reports from friends who’ve opted for other streaming services, I think Yukon is probably more expensive than some others. So I’m not sure we’ll stay with it. But, for now, it’s the path of least resistance and we’re getting by.
