Letters to the Editor

Letter: Plowing progress

I agree, the letter to the editor about street maintenance crews plowing repeatedly was off the mark. I’d been angry — unable to reach the street plowing website, which showed only a gray square with no option to respond. But I watched that plow move three times up and down this two-block street; it seemed a bit excessive. And yes, driveways are being much more carefully excavated. Good work.

Along with that, streets such as Northern Lights and Benson boulevards now have parallel plowed walkways, so that pedestrians no longer have to battle icy parking lots with traffic, vehicles parked on sidewalks, barriers between businesses. It’s a real pleasure to walk there now.

And walkways along the Old Seward Highway south of Tudor Road are being plowed. In the past, plowing seemed to happen perhaps twice per winter. Even the east side of Minnesota Drive trail, between Tudor and Northern Lights, is being plowed this year. Newer plows seem to result in wider, deeper, more walkable trails. And less often is snow from streets plowed right back over onto newly cleared walkways. Progress — kudos!
