Letter: The dumbing-down of Anchorage

After retirement, I and a number of former military friends formed a weekly coffee group, humbly calling ourselves The League of Mediocre Gentlemen. We jokingly co-opted as our motto a line from the movie “Tommy Boy” — “If at first you don’t succeed, lower your standards.”

After reading the Daily News article regarding the Bronson administration’s watering-down of the qualification requirements for the Anchorage library director position, it appears to me they have in all seriousness embraced this line of thought to satisfy the mayor’s personal desires. This is another example of Mayor Dave Bronson taking Anchorage in the wrong direction.
