Letter: When will Putin invade Ukraine?

If Vladimir Putin chooses to begin a Russian invasion of Ukraine, when is it most likely to begin? Certainly, Putin does not want to alienate his authoritarian counterpart, the Chinese dictator, Xi Jinping, unnecessarily. Putin needs the support of Xi against the West.

Therefore, as Xi will be showcasing his Winter Olympics to the world as an indicator of the splendor of the People’s Republic of China, the most probable date for any invasion of Ukraine will be after the Winter Olympics. The beginning date of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and the promised U.S. and NATO economic sanctions will also be the date of the beginning of a deep worldwide recession.
