Letters to the Editor

Letter: Is Bronson serious?

So Mayor Dave Bronson claims he is now all-in on the Port of Alaska (“It’s time to save the Port of Alaska,” Sunday, Jan. 30). I would like to believe him. Unfortunately, his actions tell a very different story.

Since taking office, Bronson has put most of his energy into stirring up controversy and causing self-inflicted damage to his administration and the municipality. Despite his earlier claims of being all-in on homelessness, Bronson resisted any efforts by the Assembly or community members to cooperate. Instead, he picked pointless battles with the Assembly about meeting rules, and he chose to populate his administration with political hacks and unqualified individuals the voters had rejected in other races.

If Bronson is serious about the Port of Alaska, he might start by showing he is serious about governing the Municipality of Anchorage. End the sideshows and the lies, remove those individuals who are only there to grind their axes, and learn the skills of collaboration. Then we can start to believe he actually cares about what’s good for Anchorage, including both the port and the homeless.
