Letter: The real overreach

As our congressional delegation continues confronting the evil forces of “federal overreach,” I’ve yet to hear a plan for their lawmaking that would address this doozy: We now know, thanks to the Jan. 6 committee, that there were written plans developed by the Trump White House and its sycophants to have the U.S. military seize the voting machines from the states, and another plan to have Department of Homeland Security seize them, and yet another plan to have the Justice Department seize them. The clown show finally settled on having 84 people in seven states sign and send in fraudulent “electors.”

Currently, Republicans will have no part of the Democrats offering federal guidelines that would stop states from gaming their voting processes into individual banana republics. Republicans’ excuse is, wait for it: This would be “federal overreach.” But not a peep out of Don Young or Dan Sullivan about the all-too-real threat of a rogue White House with a deranged president sending in the troops to kick down the doors and disappear with our voting equipment?

Young and Sullivan opposed forming the Jan. 6 committee that has now revealed how close we actually came to a crisis of epic proportions. They still have time to make a course correction. History will be a harsh judge.
