Letter: Vote no on school bond

The proposed design for the new Inlet View Elementary School is a total mess for those of us who live across the streets from it; I will simply list some of our concerns.

1. Water runoff going into the crawl space and basements of homeowners.

2. A one-way parking lot that takes up a quarter of the property, destroying the green space all of Anchorage enjoys.

3. An 80-car parking lot for an elementary school. I have been told the parking lot has been reduced — only in spaces, not the size of the lot. Each space was made bigger.

4. A two-story building almost in the middle of the property will turn our neighborhood from a beloved school and green space into what looks like an industrial park.

5. The one-way traffic will route the cars to Inlet Place and 13th Avenue. There is an elevation change of about 10 feet from Inlet Place to L Street. Daily during the winter, cars cannot make the hill and spin out. Not just during school hours. It will be a mess.

6. The little kids will play outside in the shadow of the school in winter.

All of us around Inlet View want our elementary school. Not this design. We were not informed or involved with any planning. We received a post card after the decisions were made. Inlet View Community Council wasn’t even contacted. No one who actually lives here was contacted. Employees of Inlet View Elementary School were involved.

When ASD says they won’t ask for more funds in 2023 if we pass this current amount, we all know they have asked for too much. $111 million. For all these reasons, I ask Anchorage to join me in voting no on Proposition 1.
