Letters to the Editor

Letter: Don’t support this administration

One of the hallmarks of a true democracy is the existence of the free press, press that is free to dig deep to find the facts and free to tell the hard truths. Without a free press, democracy soon flounders.

I want to congratulate the ADN for protecting democracy by speaking the hard truths in its editorial opinion piece of Sunday, March 20. The print headline was “How can Anchorage trust the Bronson administration?” The piece went on to document all the reasons we cannot. Citing behaviors like withholding information, refusing to comment, relying on one-way communications and outright lies, it makes clear that the Bronson administration has little respect for the truth, little respect for the citizens it was elected to serve. The ADN editorial board wrote of “an inexcusable breach of the public trust” and said “lying to the public is a big step toward outright corruption.”

So thank you, ADN, for doing your part to stand up for democracy and open, honest government. Now it is up to us as citizens of Anchorage to do our part. We cannot support an administration that is not truthful. There is a municipal election in few weeks. It behooves us to think carefully about our votes. Support those who stand up to lies and speak the truth. Support democracy.
