Letter: Our kids are lazy

It’s often said that our children are our future. If that’s true, we may be in deep trouble. Go to any fast-food restaurant in Anchorage and chances are the dining room is closed because they don’t have enough workers. Those entry-level jobs have always been filled by kids trying to earn money for school, clothes or to save for the future. All of these unfilled jobs show our kids have become lazy and won’t learn job skills or the value of money as they grow up.

When I was a kid, I had a paper route. I had to go outside and deliver papers in all sorts of weather, plus my route was three miles long, uphill both ways. Why have our kids become soft? Many don’t do well in school and only seem concerned with texting all day. Our local economy would get a boost if all these kids would get a job, helping themselves and their families. It’s a shame our kids are too darn lazy to take the many open jobs that are out there.
