Letters to the Editor

Letter: Qualifications matter

In his letter to the editor on March 27, Mayor Dave Bronson stated that “the Assembly has continually denied or delayed the hiring and appointments of people to important positions …” Perhaps if the mayor chose people who actually are qualified for these important positions, the Assembly would have no problem approving them. Case in point: The librarydirector position is still unfilled. Each week when I write to him, Mr. Niki Tshibaka (human resources) continues to tell me that it is the fault of the Assembly for not approving either of the former nominees. Each week, I check that the job description for this position has not changed. Neither of those candidates had the requisite qualifications.

I have chosen the library as my focus, but this is just one example of what is happening. I appreciate that members of the Assembly have pointed out the areas in which they are successfully working with the mayor and the administration, as often we only hear the negative narrative.
