Letter: Get excited to vote

As a new voter in Assembly District 1, the first election I will get to vote in is the upcoming special election for the brand new 12th Assembly seat. I’m both excited to cast my ballot and worried that my neighbors won’t have the same opportunity to get their voices heard. This election comes just after the municipality-wide election and just before voters will turn out across the state to choose a new congressperson.

Our district will have to vote three times in as many months, and I’m concerned that voter fatigue and lack of knowledge will cause our already low voter turnout to drop further. This election will have the most impact on our daily lives here in District 1 — we will have the opportunity to choose an elected leader that is representative of our district, our values, and our unique communities.

I will do everything I can to make sure my friends, neighbors, and family vote! This will undoubtedly be an election in which every vote will make a difference. What will you do to get out the vote and make sure every voice is heard?
